NEW Battlefield 3 Jet information and Gameplay

Yesterday bf3source posted on their YouTube channel just under a two minute video of some BF3 jet gameplay. This is of course off-screen footage so it isn't the best but it still gets me pumped up for the release date! We also found out that these jets will not have unlimited ammo so when you run out you will have to land and replenish your ammo. There will defiantly be more jet info as we creep closer and closer to release date.

Hope you enjoyed the video! If you want to stay up to date with Battlefield 3 follow our feed or follow us on twitter @Battlefieldlog. If you want to write for battlefieldlog drop an email to alex@battlefieldlog.com for more information!

Caspian Border Jet Gameplay Review

As most Battlefield fans knok, a new trailer for Battlefield 3 was just released. And with that came highly anticipated jet gameplay. But besides just the jet gameplay we saw Tanks, Helicopters, Cars, Quads, and Remote Controlled Robots!

These jets aren't just any jets. They are harriers or some other sort of jump jet that has vertical takeoff/landing capabilities. This looks not to be too overpowered since they float over you either trying to fight off a other jet or trying to get you. It also looks like these jets will be equipped with a chain gun and missiles. It also seems that you are going to be able to lock onto targets with the jets missiles. With lock on missiles it looks like there is a certain number of flares you have, so those flares will only protect from heat seeking missiles. DICE seemed to have balanced jets with the other vehicles and infantry perfectly and we should have any problems with jets.

Battlefield 3 Jet Gameplay: Caspian Border

Today at gamescom DICE released some jet gameplay for Battlefield 3. They also showed off some take gameplay which we havent see at all either until this date. We also saw a new gun that looked to be a scar with grip and red-dot. Also we saw in the video that conquest now has 5 bases in some maps, not just a maximum of 4. And a surprising thing that we saw was a remote controlled robot! We will have a speculation video and written review on all of this soon.

Battlefield 3 Predictions for Gamescom 2011

As you all probably know, Gamescom 2011 is right around the corner. And the main game on the spotlight for this event is the almighty Battlefield 3. The will be hosting a booth at the event full with a real life Mig-21 Jet and a game room where they will be demoing the multiplayer to the crowd. At the event we are predicting many things. So without further adue, lets get started.

First off, it is confirmed that DICE will be showing off Conquest mode on the multiplayer which we have not seen yet, (we've only seen Rush gameplay). Also we will se the long awaited Jet gameplay which will be apart of the Conquest show-off since jets will only be available in Conquest. Hopefully we will be seeing some new features included in conquest that we have never seen before in previous games. And hopefully they will relief us and finally announce if you will be able to kamikaze with the jets or not, (Hopefully you can't).

Next is Co-op, we all know just a couple weeks past that a swedish website posted that DICE would be announcing and showing off Co-op mode for BF3. Hopefully we will see this at the Gamescom 2011 event. We will most likely see them announce this the first day of Gamescom, but you never know. We all just hope that the Co-op is not just a updated Onslaught mode and a whole new redesigned from the ground up mode. Otherwise, all that hype would be wasted.

And last but not least we might be seeing what weapon customization will be like. Just a couple weeks ago DICE posted on their blog that there would be a lot of customization it BF3 and the biggest part of the customization was your gun. They also said that they would be giving more details on it later and Gamescom could be a good place to release it at. Also hopefully we can see some of that customization in action at the event. This could potentially be a huge part of the game if DICE implements it correctly.

That just about wraps it up for BattlefieldLOG's predictions for the event. One last thing is that it is a possibility that they release the exact date for the multiplayer beta. It will be september soon so they are going to have to tell us when it will come out at some point. My predictions are that they release it early for people September 1st then to the public September 3rd. If they don't tell us at gamescom they surly will soon after.

Hopefully DICE takes this event  to advantage and announces a bunch of stuff there. If you have any thing that you think they will announce at the event drop a comment down below. Battlefield 3 Booth layout at Gamescom 2011

As most of you already know, Battlefield 3 will be shown off at the gamescom 2011 convention in Cologne, Germany. But recently when got some footage and pictures of the booth at gamescom. What it shows is a real life russian mig-21 and a huge poster of the Battlefield 3 cover. Also there is a gaming room where they will be demoing the game to people who come.

This is really amazing how DICE is giving thousands of people the opportunity to play an amazing game like BF3 months before it is even released. The BF3 booth it's self is a definite work of art it's self. BattlefieldLOG will be covering the gamescom event and the news that they will release there.

Battleblog #6: Building Battlefield 3 from the gun out

Battlefield blog put up a new post today and the focus of it is realism. But the FPS market doesn't only demand realism and graphics, but also good gameplay. How the gun works, feels, the recoil, has been tested and tweaked constantly by the senior designer at DICE, Alan  Kertz

Every Battlefield game is built from the gun out. If persistence is what keeps you coming back for more, the gunplay is the essential foundation that the entire game hinges on. Read on for Senior Designer Alan Kertz’ thoughts on what makes shooting in Battlefield 3 unique.

Tweaking, testing, and re-tweaking the weapons in Battlefield 3 is the short description of a normal workday for Senior Designer Alan Kertz at this stage in the production. Now that we are well into August, Alan’s work has long since gone from overarching shooter vision to detailed fine-tuning. Walk down to his desk at any given day and you are likely to find him poring over notes or some onscreen graphs, deep in discussion with his designer colleagues:

Is the exit smoke from this RPG large enough? Is the precision increase when adding a heavy barrel to this rifle noticeable enough in semi-burst fire mode? How does the addition of a foregrip to this rifle affect the stability when firing in fully automatic mode?

-- Authenticity is really important when you’re doing a modern day game like Battlefield 3. We know our players look critically at the guns in our games, so we brought in experts like Andy McNab. Our military advisors not only help us get it right, they help us understand why it’s right.”

Compared to both Battlefield 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, there is a larger focus in Battlefield 3 on authenticity and real life handling. This comes down to details like reloads, mobility, bullet trajectories, and even how the caliber and barrel length of a gun determines muzzle velocity and energy. For Alan, this approach clearly leads to better gameplay.

-- With authenticity as a base, you get a natural balance because all real life guns are based on trade-offs. It really pulls out the personality of each weapon system to use the authentic stats and features. Each army selects a different weapon, for a different reason, and we pass those selections on to our players.”

They also told us some things about varied weapons and play styles  in BF3 by what faction you are playing with or what gun you are using. They don't go into specifics like weapon customization but this is still a good look at whats to come.

Varied weapons for all play stylesThe arsenals of U.S. Marine Corps and the Russian Army are both featured prominently in the game, since those are the sides you play in both single and multiplayer. Building from that base, we selected a number of additional weapons that are returning classics, competing designs, and alternate combat roles. Each weapon choice means it gives the player an additional tactical choice: Get in close with a carbine, PDW, or shotgun. Hit from long range with a sniper rifle. Engage tanks with an RPG. Or lay down suppressive fire with a light machinegun.

We’re not just giving you weapon A or B, take it or leave it, though. Each main weapon will be heavily customizable to suit different roles. The majority of weapons in Battlefield 3 can be tailored by the player to fit anything from close quarter to long range combat, or something in between. But we’ll save that for a later Battleblog post, when we will go deep into weapons customization.
